The Health Department of Otukpo Local Government Area has announced the commencement of a mass distribution exercise for Cycle 2 of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program. The initiative is scheduled to run from Friday, July 18 to Monday, July 21, 2025.
According to the department, trained health workers will conduct a house-to-house distribution of antimalarial drugs targeting children between the ages of 0 to 59 months (three months to five years). The effort is aimed at protecting vulnerable children against malaria fever during the peak transmission season.

Parents and caregivers, particularly mothers, are urged to ensure their children receive the medication. Authorities emphasize that the drugs are free, safe, and effective, and public cooperation is critical to the success of the campaign.
The announcement was jointly signed by Hon. Ismaila Yayaha, Supervisor for Health; Mrs. Okoko Agnes, Director of Otukpo Local Government Health Authority; and Mrs. Florence Onyenema Idoko, Social Mobilization Officer.
The Otukpo Health Department encourages all residents to support the initiative to reduce malaria-related illnesses and deaths among young children in the area.
