Akure, Ondo State – The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, was assassinated.

The 41-year-old registrar, who assumed office in January 2025, was found dead in his residence in Akure, the state capital, in the early hours of Thursday.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that the case has been officially classified as an assassination.

“The man died in the early hours of Thursday. I can confirm to you, this was reported at the Fanibi Division. From the information available to me, two men emerged from the bush and forced a substance into another person’s mouth,” Ayanlade said.

He added that the command is actively working to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the killing.

“We are doing everything possible to unravel the lies surrounding this case. I mean, we are after those responsible for this case,” he emphasized.

Ayanlade urged members of the public with useful information to come forward, assuring them that any tip-off will be handled with utmost confidentiality.

“Please feel free to come forward and share any information that can help us,” he appealed.

Meanwhile, the management of UNIMED has also confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued by the university’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi.

“The devastating news has thrown the university into mourning, as it was shocking! He was still at his duty post on Monday, 14th July 2025. As at the time of writing this statement, the cause of his death is yet to be ascertained,” the statement read.

The circumstances surrounding the registrar’s death remain unclear, but police investigations are ongoing.
